BIO

Elian Carsenat is the founder of NamSor Applied Onomastics, a European vendor of name recognition software offering solutions to help better understand international flows of money, ideas and people.

A computer scientist trained at ENSIIE/INRIA, Elian started his career at JP Morgan in Paris in 1997. He later worked as consultant and managed business & IT projects at Barclays Capital, Goldman Sachs, Crédit Agricole, Société Générale CIB in London, Paris, Moscow and Shanghai.

Avec le Big Data, on peut extraire d'une simple liste de noms de précieuses informations, y compris lorsque cette liste comprend des millions de lignes plus ou moins bien renseignées. Cela ouvre des possibilités inédites de ciblage et d'appariement. Certes, l'onomastique appliquée aux affaires comporte un risque d'abus non négligeable. Mais elle peut aussi trouver des usages positifs et inattendus, comme d'aider à développer certaines régions dans le monde.
Disruptive technologies have given the old science of onomastics unprecedented powers. Combined with datamining, extracting semantics from names can provide numerous, valuable applications. Though discriminating names carries a high risk of abuse, it can also drive new, unexpected ways for developing poor areas.
