Jean V. Salmona is a senior partner and managing director of J&P Partners, a consulting company, and senior advisor at AXA Private Equity Europe. Former CEO of CESIA, a state owned company specialised in information systems, and former chairman of Information Technologies for Development, a NGO with consultative status to the UN, he has published a variety of articles and books on IT and their role in development. Salmona is the founder of The ParisTech Review and chairman of the editorial board. He graduated from two ParisTech schools: Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique (ENSAE Paris Tech). He is also a graduate of Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Paris ("Sciences Po").

This first article in our Zero/base series, like all the ones to come, is purely an intellectual exercise. This one describes what a secondary education system might look like if it ignored all existing educational models and was based on current information technology resources and on the way children and adolescents behave today.

The purpose of our zero|base series is to take non-profit sectors of society and design new, optimal systems adapted to today’s world, taking advantage of all available technological innovations but deliberately ignoring existing structures and socio-political constraints.
